Artist Statements
Jim McArt
I was born in Reaghstown, Ardee, County Louth on Tuesday August 10th 1943. From an early age I was interested in painters and their paintings and intrigued at how they could make something that wasn’t a photograph have depth and perspective. Of course in my time at school there was no interest in teaching the arts and when I began working, life was too full of other things to do. It wasn’t until December 1994 that I had my first Art lessons in Ardee Community School at night under the tutelage of Una Barrett. Since then I have had many lessons and have exhibited at all four Aclint Art Exhibitions, which has earned quite a name for itself in North/West Louth, South Monaghan and East Meath and have sold a number of paintings each year. I paint mostly in acrylics and some watercolours. I intend to do a course in oils at some time to widen my painting capabilities. I suppose I have been influenced mostly by the Impressionists and their portrayal of light on objects. While I would never claim to be a later day impressionist I do find myself more and more drawn towards their idiom. I sign all my paintings “Mac Art” which of course is a play on my name and seems appropriate for what I am doing.
Medium: Acrylics and watercolours.
Painting on left: King John's Castle, Carlingford (acrylics) and is 22"x18" in size. It is framed and costs €100.
Painting in centre: Curragh & Hooker, Connemara (acrylics) and is 20.3"x16.5" in size. It is framed and costs €100.
Painting on right: Still life with Tulips (acrylics) and is 23"x19" in size. It is framed and costs €60.----------Sold
